Howdy to all, I am as the say Back for another round of fun with Vista, and if that doesn't deserve an lol I don't know what does. Every since my Daughter has dropped her Y510 and was silly enough not to read up on Vista no matter how hard I tried to drag that horse (only kidding Dear) to the trough she still missed the last paragraph explaining that from here on thru you have to make your own recovery disc's I have had a rather large sized head ache.

But with the stellar group of brains we have in our forum you have helped me to repair the Boot sector to the point where I am now and I am hoping that with the error codes listed above and the following someone out there may be able to help me. Before you send me to Microsoft forum I have been there done that and am stuck now so lets let you read what my status is now and see what you think.

Try running the sfc /scannow from command prompt by running as administrator. It seems that this problem is because the wdf01000.sys file itself has somehow been corrupted.

All you should need to do is obtain a copy of the file from a working install of vista. It is located in c: windows system32 drivers. Just copy it to a cd or usb drive. Boot your computer from a windows vista repair disc or from your windows vista installation dvd. On the second screen select repair.

Skip the automatic startup repair and click the option to open a command prompt. now change your directory to c: windows system32 drivers and rename your wdf01000.sys to something like wdf01000.old. Now copy the wdf01000.sys file from your cd or usb drive. Exit the command prompt and reboot the system. Note: make sure the version of vista you get your file from is the same version. In other words don't copy the file from a 64bit version to a 32bit version etc. Service pack doesn't seem to matter as copied from and sp1 machine to a rtm machine and it fixed the problem.

Hello Everyone, As usual the crack team that Lenovo has put together over the years are the Best! I used to think that I had run into a road block when it came to dealing with software issue's, especially when it came to dealing with.Dare I say it, Microsoft and in particular Vista. The bottom line turned out to be that there were just to many error's that were caused by the 4 foot fall. I was able to rebuild the Boot Sector and get into different area's of the drive but not the one area where my Daughter's data was, and it just bounced from one error and when I would fix that one the next one would pop up. So I ended up taking it to my friends at Tiger Direct and they sold me a new and bigger hard drive at a decent price, as well as reloading Vista. They are also running a Hardware Level Rebuild and Recovery program on the old Drive.

Its been plugged in for over two weeks which I think is an awfully long time as its only recovered 42% of the drive thus far??? They assured me that this is normal and it will take time depending on how bad it is.

None the less if they recover anything I want to keep I have to pay and if not I don't have to pay the $60.Can. Fair deal if you asked me. Its almost like dealing with Lenovo they do a Bang up job of helping everyone no matter how silly some of the Questions are. So Cuddo's to Lenovo!!! I had a problem in the very beginning because my Daughter hadn't burned recovery Disks when she first got the machine and Vista started off not giving out O/S CD's.

So before I knew I could burn my own for free I had ordered them through the Philippines and they lost them. This was Feb. I believe and today I received a package with the lost recovery disks, lol. So much for getting my $50.USD back for the first set of lost disks huh???
