We’ve designed the programme to give remarkable candidates like you the business knowledge and training you’ll need to become a future leader. Right from the start, you’ll embark on a comprehensive Onboarding Programme that systematically exposes you to all areas of the organisation.
Depending on your chosen path, you’ll participate in a two- to five-year development programme. This will include two or three rotations that combine on-the-job learning with formal training opportunities. You'll be given stimulating, hands-on roles, and have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with our company values. All the while, you’ll be supported by a direct supervisor to provide guidance and constructive feedback, as well as an excellent mentorship programme. You’ll get an email to guide you through this, but in a nutshell, these are: 1, a general cognitive test with numerical and verbal abstract reasoning; 2, an assessment of your working style. After you’ve submitted your application, you’ll be asked to complete two online assessments. Altogether this will take about 25 minutes and will need to be completed within 5 days of receiving the assessment invite. Online Assessment 1: Timed cognitive test This will be a timed test that is divided into three sections, covering verbal skills (24 questions), numerical skills (16 questions), and abstract reasoning (10 questions), respectively.
You would have 4 minutes to complete each section. To go through a Practice Test, please refer to: Online Assessment 2: Working style assessment This segment will assess your approach to working and your preferred behaviour across the ‘big five’ personality factors: drive, adaptability, supportiveness, assertiveness and creativity. There are no right or wrong answers, so simply pick the option that feels most natural to you. We celebrate and value diversity at Shell, so we encourage you to be yourself, when responding.
This will not be a timed assessment, and generally only takes 10-12 minutes to complete. To go through a Practice Test, please refer to: On the basis of your performance in the Stage 1 Online assessments, if you are successfully shortlisted, then you would receive an invite to the Stage 1 On-Demand Video Interview (ODVI). Altogether this will take about 20 minutes, and will need to be completed within 10 days of receiving the ODVI invite. Stage 1: On-Demand Video interview This short, self-recorded video interview is an opportunity for you to tell us about yourself. You’ll also see some of our current graduates who will ask you a series of pre-recorded competency-based questions. You will be asked 5 questions in all, and after each question, you will be given time to think and then to respond.

For each question, you’ll have 30 seconds to prepare and 3 minutes to record your answer. We recommend that reflect on why you’re applying and what your standout experiences are. Be ready to talk about these in an engaging way. You may record the interview at any internet-enabled location at a time most convenient to you.
For technical requirements to complete this assessment, you can refer to the. This is the last assessment stage. It consists of a live online session with two professionals at Shell. During this session you will be asked to discuss your thoughts on a case study, which you will have a chance to review 48 hours prior to the session. You will need to read and prepare for this, but don’t worry, more information will be provided closer to the time. On the day of your assessment, you will be assigned a topic relating to your case study and then given 20 minutes (30 for non-native English speakers) to prepare a 5-minute presentation. This presentation will be followed by questions and additional scenarios from the assessors for up to 30 minutes.
After this, will be an interview - this is where you have the chance to get to know us, and for us to get to know you better. To make the interview process more convenient and comfortable, we are leveraging the latest digital technology to bring the experience to you – wherever you may be.
What to expect We’re looking for the future leaders of Global Banking. You will need to be forward-thinking, driven and perceptive, open to different ideas and cultures and enjoy being part of a team. We have graduate opportunities in the following areas: Investment Banking: we offer financial and advisory services that support important strategic events in a company’s evolution (e.g. An acquisition, divestiture or an IPO) and/or where our clients wish to raise funds from investors in the capital or loan markets to support their operations and fund growth (eg a bond issuance or raising equity).
Our clients are corporates, financial and public sector institutions and financial sponsors (e.g. Private equity and sovereign wealth funds). If you join us, you will get the opportunity to develop a broad set of investment banking skills by rotating between different teams, both in your home city and potentially abroad. Subject to your preferences and business needs, you could gain experience across areas that include: Advisory (M&A and capital and transaction structure advisory), Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets, Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, Financial Sponsors, Project and Export Finance, Infrastructure and Real Estate Finance, and our advisory-focused Sector teams. Coverage Relationship Management (CRM): this is the principal point of contact for HSBC’s largest clients, responsible for building trusted relationships and delivering bespoke services across the full suite of products globally. CRM uses HSBC’s platform of banking solutions and unrivalled global network of relationship managers and product specialists to meet the global needs of clients.
You’ll complete a number of rotations during the two-year programme to help you understand the range of products and services that HSBC offers and how we tailor these to provide bespoke client solutions. You’ll also gain a thorough understanding of risk, which is vital to protecting the interests of our clients.
There will be plenty of people around to support you. You’ll be assigned a mentor and buddy, who will be on hand to offer advice and guidance and provide a sounding-board for your ideas. There will be many opportunities to develop your network of contacts within Global Banking and beyond. You’ll also be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives.

Once you have completed you Induction you will join the Global Banking & Markets Technical Training in August/September 2018, which will be delivered in the UK. As you move through your rotations, you’ll learn from specialised research analysts and economists, gaining a detailed insight into HSBC’s strengths in the financial services industry. Your training will be carefully structured, with events and other opportunities to build your wider HSBC and banking knowledge. You’ll have regular access to business leaders for coaching and advice, while constructive feedback will enable you to measure your performance.
